What is a Bone Graft?

A bone graft procedure is one where we add material to the area where a tooth has been extracted in order to attempt to replace missing bone.

When is a bone graft done?

A bone graft is usually performed at the time of the extraction, as this is the best time to do so. While a bone graft can be done later down the line, results are better when we do the graft immediately.

Why would I need a bone graft?

If a tooth is to be extracted, and an implant is planned as the restoration, it’s often prudent to place a graft because without grafting, you may not have an adequate volume of bone to place the implant.
